Sound Of The Underground is the girls first single. The video was made the day after the girls made it into Girls Aloud. We see the girls dancing with mircophone stands which was pushed over at the end. This single was christmas number one in 2002 and stayed there for 4 weeks. This is a huge single for Girls Aloud as they are the first girlband ever to debut at number one. Congraulations girls.
No Good Advice
No Good Advice is the girls second single which reached to number 2. During an interview, the girls confessed they hated filimg the video as Cheryl and Sarahs pants ripped and the make up artist shouted at them. Viewers of FHM tv, voted for No Good Advice as the fifth sexist video of all time on 2006. This song features the girls clad in metallic, silver, futuristic outfits. In one scene, the girls fade in and out around a rusty old car parked near a phone booth, which Sarah later smashes up.
They are joined by several men playing electric guitar, whom they flirt with while standing on the roof of the car, sitting on the hood, sitting inside the car, and in various other poses.
Life Got Cold
Life Got Cold was the third single from their debut album Sound of the Underground. It was their third consecutive top three hit in the UK, and the third top two hit in Ireland. The music video for "Life Got Cold" depicted the band members frozen or in stunted movement wandering around an abandoned city setting.
It is assumed that, at the time they were in New York City, though the video was filmed in a studio.
Both group and individual shots are shown in various scenes, including an abandoned bus, a kitchen, an alley, and a street curb.
Jump
In 2003, Girls Aloud covered "Jump" for the movie soundtrack Love Actually. The film uses The Pointer Sisters' original version in the film itself due to American audiences being unaware of Girls Aloud, who feature in the end credits.
It gave them a #2 hit and became their second biggest seller. In the United Kingdom, the single sold 59,820 copies in its first week of release and a total of 182,000 copies.
A Hugh Grant lookalike was hired and the premise of the video was that the members of the band were sneaking around the residence of the Prime Minister.
Both group and individual shots were used as the band members progressed from sneaking in a bedroom window to going down a set of stairs to entering a conference room to finally re-exiting through the window
The Show (One of my favourites)
The Show was the fifth single from Girls Aloud and the first from their second album, What Will the Neighbours Say?. It kept up their run of successful top three singles in the UK charts, debuting at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. In the UK it has sold in excess of 75,000 copies. The single showed off a brand new look for the girls. It was backed by a promotional campaign prior to its premiere featuring 5 empty chairs with each of the girls' names on. This built up excitement over the new look and later featured on the single cover with the girls in their seats. The music video for "The Show" takes place in a salon called "Curls Allowed," where each member of the band plays a character working in the salon, pampering and making-up a variety of men.
Nicola is "Chelsea Tanner," who sprays insulting messages with fake bronzer onto her male customers, Nadine is "Frenchie", who ineptly tries to give her male customers facials, Sarah is "Supa Styler", a hair stylist who fails to satisfy any of her customers, Cheryl is "Maxi Wax", who makes the waxing process as painful as possible, and Kimberley is "The Boss", who looks on amusedly as her employees take their revenge on the salon's male customers.
Love Machine (another of my favourties)
Love Machine was the second single from Girls Aloud's second album What Will the Neighbours Say?. It charted at #2 in the UK in September of 2004. It was also their first single on the UK download chart, managing to reach #6.
The group tried to stop the single being released as they thought the beginning of the song would irritate people. It has since become one of their favourite singles to perform.
Upon its release, "Love Machine" was nominated for 'Record of The Year 2004' and sold in excess of 96,000 copies, 35,800 in the first week of release.
The video for "Love Machine" takes place in the fictitious Eskimo Club, a nightclub which the band members, dressed for a night on the town, enter.
Though Cheryl initially sets her eye on a musician at the club, the girls make their way to a table.
However, they are soon distracted by the men in the Eskimo Club and the tricks they pull to try to get the girls' attention.
In a separate setting of a dark background and flashing lights, the girls begin to dance, and eventually they release their inhibitions and begin dancing in the Eskimo Club as well.
At the end of the video the girls walk at of the club tired and barefoot.
I'll Stand By You
Girls Aloud recorded a cover of the song that served as the official Children in Need song of 2004. It was released as a single and gave Girls Aloud their second UK number-one hit, selling 57,597 copies in its first week of release and staying at the top for two weeks. In the UK it has sold more than 180,000 copies, making it Girls Aloud's third biggest selling single there, and the proceeds went to charity. It stayed in the UK top forty for nine weeks, and it was ranked thirty-fourth on the year-end chart. In Ireland, the song peaked at number three for four consecutive weeks. In total, the single remained nine weeks in the top ten and fifteen weeks in the Irish Singles Top 50.The video for Girls Aloud's version of "I'll Stand by You" begins with each member of the band lying or sitting motionless in a parched desert. At the song's climax, a thunderstorm begins, and the band members come together and stand in a circle.
Wake Me Up (another of my favourites)
Wake Me Up was the eighth single released by Girls Aloud, and was their first single to miss the Top 3 in the UK. It still managed to make a top five chart appearance, peaking at number four. In the UK it has sold in excess of 62,000 copies. 16,351 of them were sold in its first week of release. The video opens with Sarah pulling down her bike helmet and the helmeted faces of all five band members being shown with a title screen. In subsequent scenes, the band members are shown racing on motorcycles along a desert road.
Following the topic of the song, the members are seen applying fake tattoos, painting their nails, and blow-drying their hair, all still while riding on their motorcycles. At one point, the girls dismount from their bikes & dance, but eventually they return to the motorcylces and ride off into the distance.
The very same motorbikes and the outfits worn in this video also appeared when the girls performed the track as a world exclusive on Top of The Pops in January 2005 Performance
Long Hot Summer (another fav)
Long Hot Summer was, at the time, Girls Aloud's lowest charting single to date. It charted at #7 in the UK and #16 in Ireland - marking the first time they'd missed the Top 5 in the UK and the Top 10 in Ireland. It was a feel-good summer song, featuring live songs from their tour as b-sides. In the UK it has sold in excess of 50,000 copies, of which 18,451 in its first week of release. The video for "Long Hot Summer" opens with scenes of the band members wearing overalls working in a garage called Pit Stop. In accordance with the song's title, it is a hot day, so the girls are attempting to fan themselves off as they get sweatier and dirtier. Each girl transforms from the overalls to a skimpy clubbing outfit, and the girls proceed to a dance routine as the song concludes. At first, Nadine did the rap for fun, until she realised that it was put into the song.
Biology
Biology is Girls Aloud's 10th Single.Released on November 14, 2005 and being the second single released from their third studio album Chemistry, the single saw a return to the top five singles chart in the UK for Girls Aloud. And also managed to reach number two in the UK download chart and was a charttopper on the UK iTunes Music Store (their biggest download hit to date). The music video for "Biology" consisted only of group shots.
The video began with a curtain being drawn back to reveal the band members posed in black jazz dresses as Nadine sang perched upon a black grand piano.
In a sequence of disjointed choreography, the girls changed into frilly pink and purple dresses as the scene changed to a room with flowery wallpaper with digitized butterflies floating by.
The band then changed into red and black outfits and black outfits as the scene changed twice more.
During an Interview the girls revealed, "It's was quite hard to walk off the moving platform without falling over"
See the Day
In 2005, Girls Aloud made a cover version of the song, which they later released as a single. The single was released only five weeks after their previous single, "Biology," and it was also released two weeks after their album and during the Christmas rush. On 16 June 2006 Girls Aloud won the Heart Award for "See the Day" at the O2 Silver Clef Lunch. Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, members of the band, attended the awards presentation ceremony.
The video for "See the Day" featured the members of Girls Aloud clad in frilly white dresses in an icy winter setting, sitting and laying in snow (which was actually salt) as digitized snowflakes fell from the starry black sky.
Occasionally words from the chorus of the song were spelt in the sky with stars as the shot is pulled back.
Group shots were tableau-like, and occasionally the shot pulled back to reveal that the girls were inside of a snowglobe being held in someone's hand.
The video was shot by the same director of "Biology" and in the same studio. It was also Nicola's 20th birthday when they filmed the video.
Whole Lotta History
Whole Lotta History was released as the fourth single in the first quarter of 2006 and reached the top ten in the United Kingdom, where it became the group's twelfth top ten single. It reached the top twenty in Ireland; however, it failed to make a large impact on the singles charts elsewhere.
The music video for "Whole Lotta History" was filmed in Paris, France. The video depicts each member of the band in a different setting reminiscing about a former love: Kimberley receives flowers inside of a café and apparently looks at her past boyfriend, Cheryl looks out of a window onto a street, Nadine looks through a photo album at a desk in a study, Nicola looks at herself in a mirror and Sarah walks alone along a river as couples pass by.
The group shot consists of all members sitting together in a lounge (in the room Nadine's section takes place) laughing and discussing past relationships. We see the girls promoting thsi single, on their docuementry "Off The Record"
Something Kinda Ooooh (my top favourite)
Something Kinda Ooooh was the thirteenth single to be released by Girls Aloud. The single is taken from the girls' Greatest Hits collection - The Sound of Girls Aloud, and was released in the UK on 23 October 2006. Cheryl has a car to herself, Nadine shares with Kimberley, and Nicola shares with Sarah.
However, The Box had actually shown an early edit of the video, and the finished version was shown on Channel 4's Popworld on September 30, 2006.
It followed the footsteps of previous Girls Aloud videos, becoming a popular request on Music Video Channels and spending weeks in the Top 5.
The featured sports cars of the video are a red TVR Tuscan 2 convertible, and a blue TVR Tamora.
Since it's release, the single has sold in excess of 165,000 copies in the UK, making "Something Kinda Ooooh" their 4th biggest selling single of their career, This single was one of Girls Aloud's biggest single to date even though it didn't reach number 1.
